Behold the Lamb of God!

Christmas is almost here. This time of year should cause us to reflect on the work that Christ has done for us. Many Bible verses come to mind that speak of Christ and His redemptive work. One of these is John 1:29: ” Behold the lamb of God that taketh away the sin of the world.” I have become familiar with this verse after having sung it as a chorus in Handel’s Messiah many times. It seems to me that this song and the verse it is based on hold the key to what the Christmas season is about. This season of the year is filled with many songs that talk about Frosty the Snowman, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and Santa Claus or sometimes winter in general. Some think Christmas is all about lights and presents. Sometimes we can get so caught in the festivities ourselves that we forget that Christmas is all about Jesus Christ and His salvation. While we give gifts to each other in this Christmas season, let us remember the “Lamb of God” who came to take away our sins and the sins of all His people and to make them righteous in His sight. To God be the Glory!
