A Place Prepared

John 14:1-3: “Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.  In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you.  I go to prepare a place for you.  And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.”

Are your eyes directed toward heaven?

When we look up, we see a vast land, a large kingdom, a place of many mansions.  At this very second Jesus is preparing our place.  He is doing that by all of our life experiences, no matter what they are: trials, triumphs, tears, joys, our work, our play– everything.  We will be perfectly fit for our mansion above. When we all get to heaven, we will know why we needed to suffer these hardships on earth.

Just as Jesus came to this earth, took on our flesh, died on the cross, rose from the dead, and ascended into heaven, so he will come back.  Think about that– right now, Jesus’ work in heaven is preparing the place he earned for us by his work on the cross.  He will come back and receive us unto himself!  That is wonderful!  Jesus says, where I am, you will be, too!  We sinners, wretched criminals, will dwell with Christ forever!  He is our life, our righteousness, our all.  He will never leave us nor forsake us.  Though you might think that your trials are dragging you down, robbing you of your hope, and stripping you of any assurance, they cannot!  Christ rules!  Christ, mighty and powerful king, will preserve us until our last breath, until we finally live with him for eternity!

This is Jesus’ prayer for us–that we might be with him.  This is the goal of life.  This truly is life – to be with Jesus.  Our earthly pilgrimage, this brief, short stay on earth, is preparing us for eternal life with him!  When we have this knowledge, then surely our hearts are not troubled.  True peace of heart only comes with the knowledge that Christ is bringing us home soon.  Peace for a troubled heart!  Eternal peace.

We will live with Jesus forever!
